1. Summary
This product bulletin announces the
availability of NearStore Personality Software license version 1.0 for First
Customer Ship on the FAS30x0 platform.
With this license installed, FAS platforms will
adopt a nearline storage personality that optimizes the platform for data
protection and retention applications. Currently, the license enables larger
numbers of concurrent streams and SnapVault® for NetBackup™.
Note: NearStore is not recommended for mixed
primary and secondary workload deployments since primary performance may be
substantially reduced. Deployment in mixed workload environments is the sole responsibility
of the customer and NetApp may require that the NearStore personality be
removed before providing service.
2. What's New?
NearStore Personality for FAS30x0 is a new option
on our FAS30x0 line and is supported by Data ONTAP® 7.1GA and future Data ONTAP
releases.
With this NearStore Personality license installed,
the following features are enabled:
- Support of up to 32
concurrent streams on FAS3020
- Support of up to 64
concurrent streams on FAS3050
- Support for SnapVault for NetBackup

What else does the customer need to run NearStore Personality 7.1?
Data
ONTAP 7.1GA
NearStore Personality is
licensed on a per-filer basis.
The
NearStore Personality part numbers and prices are/will be included in
the Network Appliance published price list and the May 2006 Quote Tool
release. Partners should contact their Channel Representative for
pricing information.
The

Software Subscription Plans
It is highly recommended that customers purchase an SSP license for NearStore Personality. This will entitle them to NetApp customer support and also to future releases of NearStore Personality.
Product Availability
NearStore Personality will be
available to quote in the May 2006 release of the Quote
Tool.
NearStore Personality is
scheduled to be production released for shipment in May 2006.
Prior to the May Quote Tool
release, we will be supporting those customers who require this product via a
standing PVR. Please
review PVR 4172 for further instructions on how to place these orders.
There
is normal
FAS30x0 and Data ONTAP support.
